The Voice has taken the TV world by storm, with each season challenging celebrity musicians with the task of finding the next big musical sensation - based purely on their voice. The judges are faced away from the stage, letting their decision rest purely on the vocal capabilities of each contestant. Princess Cruises are set to bring this exciting concept onboard a few of their own ships, inviting passengers to compete with one another to be crowned the Voice of the Ocean!
Find your Voice with Princess Cruises
The competition will make its debut on the Regal Princess in October, closely followed by the Royal Princess, Caribbean Princess and eight other ships which are yet to be named - all by May 2016. Any and all passengers will be welcome to participate - so if you are keen to challenging yourself on your next Princess holiday, be sure to check your daily cruise schedule for the tryouts!
The search process will begin with karaoke-style auditions in which the audience decide who has what it takes to move on to the live show. The lucky winners of this round will then be assigned mentors from Princess Cruises' entertainment staff who will help them to perfect their craft and create a show-stopping live performance.
Once contestants have had some time to work alongside their mentors, the Cruise Director hosts the finale in the form of a live show. The main theatre will be transformed into a space for the nine hand-picked contestants to battle it out for the crowning glory - making for an incredible night of entertainment for both the participants and the onward watching passengers!
The finale night is laid out exactly like The Voice, with three judges - usually the Captain, the Hotel General Manager, a guest entertainer or another VIP onboard - sitting in the rotating “I Want You†seats, ready to pick their favourite three. From this trio, they will each put forward their top performer with the final three contestants competing for the winning title - as voted for by the audience on their voting remotes.
At this stage, the competition is not set for any ships in the New Zealand or Australian fleets but if it's as successful as we think it will be, we hope that it gets pushed to our corner of the world! In the meantime, it's an exciting feature for anyone taking a Princess Cruise beyond the South Pacific.
Sing and dance your heart out at sea
Karaoke competitions are nothing new when it comes to cruise holidays - if anything, it's one of the best bits! Most ships will offer a smaller stage for anyone keen to belt out a few hits, and there are even talent shows aboard Royal Caribbean and Carnival ships if you like to participate in a bit of healthy competition.
If your talent lies in your feet rather than your voicebox, dancing competitions are another way to get your heart-racing. P&O Cruises UK offer “Strictly Come Dancing†themed cruises which are yet another television adaptation. They feature competitions for passengers alongside amazing performances by professional dancers on all cruises with more than three sea days.
Holland America also offer a fun opportunity for those who have packed their dancing shoes, with the “Dancing with the Stars: At Sea†competitions on every sailing - they even have dance classes to freshen yourself up before the big night! Their special Champions Cruise then invites winners from previous cruises to battle for the title of ultimate Champion and supreme winner of the Mirrorball Trophy. They also provide DTWS themed sailings throughout the year.
