Cruises from Auckland

Located on the shore of a sparkling harbour filled with pleasure boats, beautiful Auckland lives up to its nickname of “City of Sails.” It is also a city of cruise ships, the country’s principal cruise port and a common destination or disembarkation point for cruising in the South Pacific and NZ. Auckland’s cruise docks are right in the heart of the city which makes for easy access to everything the city has to offer. Read more

Cruises departing Auckland can take one of many directions. It is a starting point for many cruises around the islands of NZ, some of which also head across the Tasman to Australia’s eastern coast. It is an embarkation port for World Cruise sectors which head to Australia and beyond to southeast Asia. There are also many South Pacific itineraries leaving Auckland and heading to the tropical islands of New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji- these make great getaways for Kiwis who want a change of pace!

Auckland’s cruise ship visits are steadily increasing and so is the variety of ships and cruise lines. P&O Australia’s three ships are very commonly seen at Princes or Queens Wharf- the Pacific Pearl is based in the city during the high season. Princess and Royal Caribbean both have ships based in the South Pacific which visit Auckland regularly, and the Celebrity Solstice is often there too. Holland America and Cunard ships call in and bring some traditional flavour. Smaller boutique cruise lines such as Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas use Auckland as both a port stop and an embarkation point for their luxury cruises.

Ships arriving in Auckland dock at either Princes Wharf by the Hilton Hotel, or at Shed 10 on Queen’s Wharf which is a new cruise terminal and function space. Both of these are right at the bottom end of the main drag, Queen Street. All parts of downtown Auckland are within easy walking distance, including the trendy bar and restaurants scenes at Britomart Precinct and Wynyard Quarter, and the Sky Tower which rises above the CBD and offers spectacular views over the entire city and both of the harbours. For those wanting to explore further, the Britomart Transport Station is minutes from both wharves and is a hub for trains and buses to all over the city and suburbs.
