The Stunning Main Port of

Radiance Of The Seas Overview

The Radiance of the Seas cruise ship made her debut in 2001 and wowed passengers with her bright and spacious design. Having undergone extensive refurbishments since then, she continues to impress travellers with her style and charm.

Specs: Radiance of the Seas at a glance
At 90,090 tonnes and measuring 894 feet in length, the Radiance of the Seas is a medium to large cruise ship. She can accommodate 2,112 passengers and 894 cruise members and spans 12 decks. Her cruise speed is 22 knots.

Inside Radiance of the Seas
This beautiful vessel is designed to make the most of natural light wherever possible, with bright and spacious public rooms which simply dazzle on lovely sunny days. The nine-storey atrium is a work of art in itself, constructed almost entirely of glass walls. Even the elevators are made of glass, so you can enjoy stunning ocean views as you zoom around the ship.

Regular refurbishments have seen Radiance of the Seas stay up-to-date with modern cruise trends, such as digital signage and fine dining experiences, but her charm really does lie in the fact she appears light and welcoming nearly everywhere you go. This is only complemented by her deep blue and crisp white colour palette.

Entertainment: things to do on board Radiance of the Seas
There are plenty of activities to choose from during sea days on board the Radiance of the Seas. From fast-paced fun to low-key relaxation, there's a wide variety of choice - simply wake up each morning and see what you're in the mood for!

One popular highlight is the Solarium, an adults-only retreat featuring comfortable loungers, a quiet pool, as well as a bar and a pizzeria. It's easy to spend a whole day here, and many do.

If you have family in tow or are in the mood for something a little more active, there's a range of adventurous activities such as mini-golf and rock-climbing.

As night falls, the entertainment centres around the many bars and lounges for dancing and socialising. There's also a theatre on board where you can watch a production show, as well as a casino and a poolside movie screen.

Food: Radiance of the Seas restaurants
Dining at sea continues to go from strength to strength on cruise ships worldwide, and the Radiance of the Seas is no exception. Several new restaurants were added during 2011 renovations, taking the food on board up to the next level, with many venues rivalling eateries on land.

There's a good mix of casual restaurants and fine dining establishments, with some included in your fare and others available for a cover charge or a la carte pricing. Between all of the venues, there are dishes to suit nearly all tastes, with a good selection of vegetarian options and low-calorie meals too.

Destinations: Radiance of the Seas itineraries
The Radiance of the Seas splits her schedule between the southern and northern hemispheres, so she sails in summer all year round. During the southern summer she sails from Sydney to ports around Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, while during the northern summer she is based out of Vancouver and cruises the Alaskan fjords.

Shore excursions will of course depend on your chosen destination, but thanks to the warm weather you can expect a lot of outdoor activities such as snorkelling and swimming. Some popular examples include biking down Mount Wellington in Tasmania, attending a lumberjack show in Alaska and going on a wildlife cruise along the Dunedin coastline.

Cabins on board the Radiance of the Seas

The Radiance of the Seas cabins are all light, airy and comfortable, offering the perfect quiet sanctuary when you feel like escaping the hustle and bustle or relaxing after a long day of fun. Most enjoy a beautiful view, with 75% of the accommodation being either balcony or outside rooms.

All standard staterooms come with flatscreen televisions, phones, wireless internet and your own private ensuite. There is also a select number of family cabins available, so if you're travelling with your little ones it's a good idea to book in advance.

On the upper end of the accommodation spectrum, Radiance of the Seas suites are spacious and luxurious. Suite guests enjoy perks such as generous bathtubs, separate living areas and tea and coffee making facilities.

Entertainment

The Radiance of the Seas by day
You'll likely find yourself spending most of your day on the upper decks of the ship, where much of the fun is located. Take your pick from the rock climbing wall, the mini golf course, a good-sized sports court, a video arcade, plus many other great facilities.

If you'd prefer a quieter day at sea, the atrium is a good place to start. Located on deck 5, this lovely space is home to several shops and cafes, as well as a well-stocked art gallery. Here you can also find a cinema and a pub.

The entertainment crew also organise a range of interactive activities for socially-inclined passengers, such as trivia games, dance classes, enrichment seminars and sports tournaments. Be sure to check the Cruise Compass daily newsletter each morning for information about the day ahead.

Pools, spas and fitness facilities on board Radiance of the Seas
There are three pools to choose from on the Radiance of the Seas. Families will likely be found at the kid's pool, a great place for little ones to make a splash, while those travelling without children will love the quiet bliss of the pool in the adults-only Solarium. There's also a large main pool area which is open to everyone, and several whirlpools throughout the ship.

For the ultimate relaxation, make yourself at home at the Vitality at Sea day spa. This beautiful retreat is made up of 12 treatment rooms and a thermal suite - after a few hours here you are guaranteed to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

If you'd like to keep up your exercise routine while at sea, the fitness centre has cardio machines, weights, benches and an aerobics room. There's also a range of fitness classes each day for a small fee.

Radiance of the Seas nightlife
Evenings on board the Radiance of the Seas are full of fun and entertainment. As the sun sets, the many bars and lounges light up with great music, delicious beverages and excellent service. With 16 different spots to choose from, you'll find no shortage of spaces to socialise and reminisce about the day just been.

There are also several scheduled performances on each night. Be sure to catch a production show at the Aurora Theatre at least once during your stay - these excellent spectacles are not to be missed. You can also find live music in many of the bars and lounges. It's a good idea to check the daily schedule to see who's playing where, or ask one of the friendly crew members - they will be more than happy to give you a good recommendation of where the best nightlife is to be found.

The Radiance of the Seas for families
Like all Royal Caribbean cruise ships, the Radiance of the Seas has fantastic facilities for families. There are plenty of places to enjoy the cruise experience together, such as the pools, mini golf course and rock climbing wall, but sometimes parents need a little bit of a break. That's where Royal Caribbean's youth programmes come in.

Experienced youth staff organise children into four different groups: Aquanauts for ages 3 to 5, Explorers for ages 6 to 8, Voyagers for ages 9 to 11 and Teens for ages 12 to 17. Each of these groups enjoy age appropriate activities in a fun, supervised setting, so parents don't need to worry about a thing.

For babies and toddlers aged less than 3 years old, there is a Royal Babies & Tots Nursery facility. Parents may play with their children here but cannot leave their little ones unattended. Please note babies must be at least 6 months old to travel (12 months on long cruises).

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
