Now that’s a close shave.

Now that’s a close shave.

It’s no secret that cruise holidays can introduce guests to incredible experiences, but one Mediterranean sailing just took this to a whole new level. The MS Braemar, a vessel owned by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, recently passed through Greece’s Corinth Canal with so little room to spare that guests could almost reach out and touch touch the sides. At 195.82 metres long and 22.52 metres wide (the canal comes down to 24 metres wide at its narrowest) MS Braemar broke the record to become the largest ship to pass through this historic waterway.

The Corinth Canal divides the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, having been finally completed in the 19th century after plans to construct the route since the first century AD. This important navigational route allows for a shortcut into the Aegean Sea, and was incorporated into a 25-night ‘Corinth Canal & Greek Islands’ cruise for the MS Braemar. Clare Ward, Director of Product and Customer Service for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“This is such an exciting sailing and tremendous milestone in Fred. Olsen’s 171-year history, and we are thrilled to have been able to share it with our guests. At Fred. Olsen, we strive to create memories that last a lifetime, and with guests on board Braemar able to get so close to the edges of the Corinth Canal that they could almost touch the sides, we know that this will be a holiday that they will never forget. We have already had exceptionally high interest in our second Corinth Canal cruise, in Spring 2021, and we can’t wait to do it all over again!”

Of course, the Corinth Canal is far from the only extraordinary highlight that Mediterranean cruise guests can discover. Many of the world’s ancient wonders are dotted around this stunningly beautiful region, with an exciting selection of them available for cruisers to explore via shore excursions. Taking the first step toward your very own Mediterranean adventure is as easy as heading to Cruise Sale Finder, selecting the region as your destination, and hitting Search. Discover what the Med has in store for you today.

From party cruises in the Baltic to a classy Cunard voyage, I’ve been lucky enough to experience the full spectrum of cruise life. Onboard you’ll probably find me by the pool with a doorstop sized book in one hand and a mojito in the other, or sampling an array of delicious foods.
