Fun Ships: The Carnival Fleet

There are a grand total of 24 Carnival ships currently sailing the ocean blue, with a few more on the way. Of these, two frequent the waters of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific: the Carnival Spirit year-round, and the Carnival Legend seasonally. Both sail a variety of itineraries out of Sydney, bringing antipodean cruisers a slice of the Carnival exuberance. Click through to the pages for each vessel to learn more about their itineraries, deck plans and individual features.

Carnival Spirit: Based in Australia for several years now, the Spirit has made herself at home with things like Australasian power outlets, decent coffee and AUD as onboard currency. The ship underwent Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades in 2015 and now boasts a huge range of options for eating and socialising along with the old favourites.

Carnival Legend: The Legend has also been well-adapted for her time spent Down Under. The ship's decor is themed around the great legends of the world, and the whimsical setting is the perfect backdrop to the fun and entertainment provided onboard. As is the case with the Spirit, the Green Thunder waterslide, Serenity retreat and rocking productions found onboard the Legend contribute to make any cruise a good time.

Life onboard with Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival's chief attraction is the ability to cater to a huge range of cruisers, making it perfect for groups and families. The many different options for dining, drinking, socialising and passing the time allow everyone to have the time of their lives in their own way - and come together by the pool, at dinner or in the pub to relate the day's adventures. If you're looking for an unadulterated and unpretentious good time, the Carnival Spirit or Carnival Legend could be just right.

Colourful waterparks and waterslides are a staple on the majority of Carnival ships. Multiple pool areas are also a feature, offering plenty of space for relaxation and splashing. Mini golf, sports courts and other such facilities are available on both the Spirit and Legend. The fun continues indoors, with the casino, library, shops, and organised activities run by the friendly and personable crew. A great variety of bars, a casino and several theatres provide plenty of space to chill or party in the evenings. The children's program is extensive and well-equipped for keeping the young ones happy.

Tastebuds are kept happy too, onboard a Carnival cruise. The main dining rooms are always extravagantly decorated and have a three-course menu of classic dishes and daily specials, while the buffets are extensive and there's the pizzeria for a late night snack. The Carnival Spirit leads the way in the Australia-based fleet when it comes to casual (and complimentary) dining alternatives - the pool deck boasts Guy Fieri's Burger Joint and the BlueIguana Cantina as well as the buffet, and Fat Jimmy's C-Side BBQ serves up tasty meat and sides on the top deck. On both ships, the specialty Nouveau Restaurant is the place for an upmarket night out.
