Celebrity Solstice - Celebrity Cruises

28 reviews

Celebrity Solstice Overview

Launched in 2008, the Celebrity Solstice represented many firsts for the Celebrity fleet. She was the first to include innovative features that are now standard across the brand, such as live glassblowing demonstrations and a green and spacious Lawn Club. A true trend-setter, this beautiful ship effortlessly combined modern cruise trends with traditional offerings, resulting in a charming, fun way to enjoy a holiday at sea.

Specs: Celebrity Solstice at a glance
The Celebrity Solstice weighs 122,000 tonnes, measures 1,033 feet in length and spans 19 decks. She can accommodate 2,850 passengers and 1,250 crew members. Her cruise speed is 24 knots.

Inside Celebrity Solstice
As her name suggests, this lovely ship is inspired by the sun. The layout makes the most of natural light wherever possible, and sun symbolism can be found throughout the vessel. Meanwhile the colour palette in the staterooms is compiled of warm colours, with reds, golds and browns adding to the sun-inspired theme.

Entertainment: things to do on Celebrity Solstice
The Celebrity Solstice offers a range of activities both day and night, from glass blowing demonstrations to production shows. Celebrity Life, the ship's enrichment programme, has a rich and varied schedule, featuring wellness lectures, culinary classes and everything in between.

At night, the entertainment doesn't slow down. Card games and enrichment classes are replaced with live music and exceptional performances. Whether you prefer low-key activities or fast-paced fun, one thing's for sure: you'll never be bored.

Food: Celebrity Solstice restaurants
With ten eateries to choose from, the Celebrity Solstice offers a wonderful variety of delicious menus. Take your pick from innovative international cuisine, classic comfort food, low-calorie options, vegetarian delights and much more.

Each restaurant has its own look, feel and specialty, from fine dining establishments to low-key buffets. You can also find a selection of light snacks on the room service menu.

Destinations: Celebrity Solstice itineraries
The Celebrity Solstice sails to several destinations around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Bali, Singapore, Tahiti, Alaska, Denmark, the Bahamas, the United States and many more. Shore excursions will of course depend on your chosen itinerary, but you can expect a wide range of options to suit all activity levels and interest. Some examples include surfing lessons in Hawaii, jet boating in Sydney Harbour and whale watching in Alaska.

Cabins on board the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship

There are several accommodation categories to choose from on board the Celebrity Solstice, from comfortable interior cabins to spacious and luxurious Penthouse suites.

Starting at the lower end of the spectrum, interior and oceanview staterooms are a great choice for those travelling on a budget - or if you don't envisage spending a lot of down time in your cabin. What they may lack in size, they certainly make up for in comfort, and all rooms come with a flatscreen television, ample storage space and shampoo and conditioner.

Midrange accommodation comes in the form of the Aqua, Concierge and Veranda Class staterooms. Aqua Class guests enjoy exclusive access to Blu Restaurant and the Persian Garden Spa, while Concierge and Veranda Class rooms tend to be located in better areas of the ship and have great views.

At the upper end of the spectrum, the four suite categories (Penthouse, Royal, Celebrity and Sky) are large, spacious and come with attentive European-style Butler service.

Entertainment on board the Celebrity Solstice

Fun at sea: daytime activities on Celebrity Solstice
The Celebrity Life enrichment programme is at the heart of daytime entertainment, offering interesting classes focused on culinary skills, wellness, trivia and other interesting topics. On certain cruises, you may also get the chance to hear from motivational speakers - Celebrity has a 'Beyond the Podium' feature that brings successful people on board to share their stories with passengers.

Another not-to-be-missed daytime activity is the Hot Glass Show. Here, you'll learn all about the art of glassblowing, and see first-hand what it takes to carefully craft glass into exquisite pieces of art. Delivered in partnership with the Corning Museum of Glass, these glassblowing demonstrations can only be found on Celebrity cruise ships.

Celebrity Solstice pools, spa and fitness facilities
There are two main pool areas on board the Celebrity Solstice. One is a family-friendly zone and tends to be quite popular on sunny days, while the other is located in the Aqua Spa and is designed for relaxing. The Aqua Spa is also home to two indoor whirlpools.

For beauty treatments, massages and more, head to the Canyon Ranch SpaClub. Made up of several treatment rooms, this is the place to go for ultimate pampering. If you'd prefer to relax on your own, the Persian Garden is a wonderful space, featuring saunas, a steam room, a tropical rain shower and heated loungers.

Keeping fit at sea has never been easier. The fitness centre is well-equipped with all the latest cardio machines and free weights, and you will also find a jogging track and basketball court on board.

Celebrity Solstice nightlife
Dining, dancing, live entertainment - three essential ingredients for a wonderful night out. After you've enjoyed a wonderful meal at one of the many eateries, head to the Sky Observation Lounge, where you can grab a drink and soak up some of the best views on board. This lovely venue also plays host to regular themed parties, such as Live@Sky (40s-themed dance party) and Motown (soul and funk bands).

Another great place to spend your evening is at the Celebrity Theatre. The production shows and live performances will blow your mind - there is some amazing talent among the Celebrity ranks.

Family fun on board the Celebrity Solstice
The Celebrity Solstice has a fantastic youth program, with fun activities to cater for kids aged 3 to 17. There are two main designated children's areas: the Fun Factory for kids aged 3 to 11 and X-Club for tweens and teens. These facilities are separated by a basketball court, which is shared by all.

Younger children are organised into three age groups: Shipmates for ages 3 to 5, Cadets for ages 6 to 8 and Ensigns for ages 9 to 11. This helps to ensure the activities for each group are age appropriate, with arts and crafts for the little ones and scavenger hunts and water games for the older children.

The tweens and teens tend to be pretty self-sufficient. Their hangout is kitted out with music, video games, movies and a non-alcoholic bar. Some organised entertainment is provided, such as formal evenings and Dancing with the Stars fun.

Both private in-cabin babysitting and group babysitting is available for a small fee. It's a good idea to book in advance as spaces may be limited.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
