P&O - Pacific Jewel Overview

Since joining P&O Australia in 2009, the beautiful Pacific Jewel has become quite the trailblazer for the cruise line. Thanks to regular refurbishments, she features several impressive features, such as the P&O Edge theme park and a circus arena at sea. With fun additions like this, she's quickly becoming a firm favourite in the Australian cruise market.

Specs: Pacific Jewel at a glance
A mid-sized vessel, the Pacific Jewel weighs 70,310 tonnes, measures 804 feet in length and spans 11 decks. She can accommodate 1,900 passengers and 730 crew members. Her cruise speed is 22.5 knots.

Inside Pacific Jewel
The atmosphere on board the Pacific Jewel is fun, friendly and welcoming. Expect delightful service everywhere you turn, and a wide variety of inviting public spaces to enjoy a drink as you relax, unwind and watch the world go by.

Interiors are contemporary and attractive, with regular million-dollar refurbishments ensuring all facilities are in excellent condition. The colour palette varies widely throughout the ship, from earth tones to bright blues. Wherever you look, one thing is for certain: the design is tasteful and appealing.

Entertainment: things to do on board the Pacific Jewel
The Pacific Jewel boasts a fun, interactive entertainment schedule, with several activities organised each day, from enrichment classes to bingo competitions. Stay informed about the day's happenings by reading the daily newsletter or asking one of the friendly crew members.  Or try something adventurous with P&O Edge.

If you prefer your fun to be unscheduled, then you'll find no shortage of spots for your own impromptu enjoyment, such as the pool, outdoor lawn bowls and the Oasis, an adults-only retreat.

As night falls, evening entertainment usually kicks off in the three-storey Atrium. This beautiful spot is home to a variety of bars and lounges, including the popular MIX cocktail lounge. Start your evening with a pre-dinner aperitif, before catching a show in the Marquee Theater or returning to the Atrium for some dancing and socialising.

Food: Pacific Jewel restaurants
P&O Australia has stepped up its dining game in recent years, introducing a selection of exciting new restaurants to its ships. In 2015, The Pantry was unveiled on board the Pacific Jewel, a new approach to buffet style dining that focuses on freshness and choice. You won't find any tired buffet options here - it's more like a fancy food court made up of tiny premium restaurants. Take your pick from Mexican, Asian fusion, traditional pub fare and many more delicious options.

In addition to the Pantry, the Pacific Jewel has several formal, sit-down restaurants, all of which offer exceptional service and creative, innovative menus. During the day, you'll also find several casual cafes and eateries on board for all of your snacking needs.

A new addition as of March 2018 is Shell & Bones, a classic surf 'n turf venue serving local seafood, delectable cuts of meat and even some tasty vegetarian options.

Destinations: Pacific Jewel itineraries
Based in Sydney, the Pacific Jewel spends most of her time sailing to ports around Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Her schedule includes a variety of short and medium length cruises, with some 2-3 day options - perfect for those who would like to get a taste for cruise life without committing to a long journey.

The shore excursions available will of course depend on your chosen destination, but you can expect a range of interesting tours to choose from. Some popular examples include visiting the Blue Mountains near Sydney, taking a tour of Jinek Bay Marine Reserve in Lifou and exploring Noumea by segway.

Cabins onboard the Pacific Jewel

In keeping with its fun, relaxed atmosphere, the Pacific Jewel isn't home to any over-the-top penthouse suites or the like. Rather, you'll find a good range of interior, oceanview and balcony cabins, as well as some mini suites. All rooms are comfortable, spacious and inviting - ideal for some quiet relaxation after a busy day at sea or at land.

In-room facilities are excellent. There's ample storage space for your belongings, as well as a flatscreen television, mini-fridge, safe and air conditioning. If you do decide to go for the mini suite, you'll enjoy fresh fruit and flowers when you arrive, as well as priority check-in.

If you're travelling as a family or a large group, there are 20 interconnecting rooms, as well as several quad cabins.

Food and Dining

Dining included in your Pacific Jewel ticket:

  • Waterfront Restaurant: main dining room (please note: no fixed seating times)

  • Shell & Bones: tasty surf 'n turf
