Royal Princess Overview

The Royal Princess marked the beginning of a new era for the Princess cruise line. Launched in 2013, this beautiful vessel was the first in a fresh generation of ships. Her debut attracted much attention, as she was christened by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge in a spectacular ceremony which celebrated Princess Cruises' extensive past and exciting future. The Royal Princess was closely followed by her sister vessel, the Regal Princess, which was launched in 2014.

The Royal Princess specs

One of the largest ships in the Princess fleet - and one of the 20 largest in the world - the Royal Princess weights 141,000 tonnes, measures 1,083 feet in length and spans 19 decks. She can accommodate 3,560 guests and 1,400 crew, and her cruising speed is 22 knots.

Inside the Royal Princess

The interior decor is contemporary and elegant - you can tell no detail has been forgotten. From the moment you step into the ship's Italian-style Atrium, constructed with wood and marble, you will feel like you are somewhere special. This feeling is maintained throughout the ship, creating a wonderful warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Some areas are more modern than others. While you can expect quite traditional, refined decor in the dining rooms and the Atrium, the Fountain Pool has been designed with an eye to the future. Every night this area comes to life with a spectacular, colourful light show. Another amazing feature is the SeaWalk, a glass-bottom promenade that offers breathtaking views of the ocean 128 feet below. It's additions like these that set the Royal Princess apart from her predecessors.

Things to do on board the Royal Princess

There are plenty of activities to choose from, morning, noon and night. The cruise line's enrichment programme is fantastic, with public seminars about a range of interesting topics, such as art history, science and politics.

If you're after something a little more light-hearted, take a seat at Princess Live!, the ship's on board TV studio. Here they film everything from interviews with cruise staff, to late-night comedy shows.  You can also take your pick from a range of traditional cruise activities, including trivia competitions, card games, golf putting, cooking lessons and more.

Royal Princess restaurants and bars

There is a total of 16 eateries on board the Royal Princess. The majority are fee-free, including a choice of three main dining rooms, a buffet, an ice cream bar and several cafes. The handful of specialty restaurants are all excellent for a special occasion, or if you simply love trying delicious new flavours.

Of particular note are the private dining experiences available on board. You can reserve a private table and enjoy a 'Winemaker's Dinner', where an experienced sommelier will recommend a wine match for each course. Another private dining option is the 'Chef's Table Lumiere', where a maitre'd and an executive chef are both at your service to create a truly memorable dining experience.

Royal Princess itineraries and shore excursions

The Royal Princess spends most of her time cruising ports in the United Kingdom, Europe and the Caribbean. The shore excursions available will therefore depend on your chosen destination. There will be a variety of tours to choose from at each port, including options to suit all activity levels. To give you an idea of the range available, some popular examples include a visit to La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, a tour of the Old Olympic Stadium in Athens and snorkeling off the coast of Nassau in the Bahamas.

Cabins on board the Royal Princess

The Royal Princess has a total of 1,780 cabins, ranging from interior staterooms to luxurious suites. The majority of the cabins (1,438) have balconies.

Interior rooms measure approximately 161 square feet, while balcony cabins start at 222 square feet. All rooms are furnished with a flatscreen television, writing desk, safe, telephone, armchair, fridge and basic toiletries. They are comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully decorated.

Those looking for a touch more space can choose from four suite categories. The Owner's Suites are the largest, at a maximum of 705 square feet, while the Mini Suites are the smallest and measure approximately 323 square feet. All suites come with large televisions, spacious bath tubs, top-of-the-range toiletries and other special touches, such as marble floors and exclusive access to the Concierge Lounge.

Entertainment on board the Royal Princess cruise ship

The Royal Princess by day

The Atrium is the best place to catch live entertainment throughout the day. This spacious area is the social heart of the ship, and home to several excellent cafes, bars and shops. Street performers, musicians and other acts tend to roam this area on a regular basis. Another excellent venue for live entertainment is the Vista Lounge, which sometimes also puts on enrichment activities or public seminars.

Pools, spas and fitness facilities on board the Royal Princess

The Fountain Pool is a popular spot both day and night. As the main pool area, it attracts families and sun worshippers during daylight hours, while at night it transforms into a spectacular light show. If you'd prefer to take a dip in a quieter setting, the Retreat Pool is adults-only.

For ultimate peace and quiet, make your way to the Lotus Spa on Deck 5. With 18 treatment rooms, as well as several private couples villas to rent, the spa is the perfect place to treat yourself. Here you will also find the Enclave, which has heated beds, a hydrotherapy pools and sensory showers.

It's easy to keep fit on board, thanks to the wide range of sports facilities. Between the fitness centre, the jogging track, the sports courts, the aerobics studio and the golf putting green, you'll have no trouble getting your heart rate up. If you really want to push yourself, personal trainers are available for a fee.

Royal Princess nightlife

The best place to start your evening is at Bellini Bar, which overlooks the busy Atrium. This serves fresh and exotic cocktails and is the perfect venue for a pre-dinner beverage. However, if cocktails are not to your tastes, never fear - there is a total of 14 bars to choose from, so do take the time to explore your options.

The two most popular spots for evening entertainment are the Princess Theater (for original production shows) and Crooner's Martini Bar (home to live piano performances). If you want to continue dancing until the small hours, Club 6 is the Royal Princess' late-night venue.

Those looking for a more relaxed evening environment will be right at home at Movies Under the Stars, which shows some excellent blockbuster films on a huge screen. Alternatively, try your luck in the Casino, or sit back and enjoy the Princess Watercolour Fantasy Water and Light Show at the Fountain Pool.

The Royal Princess for families

Families are made to feel very welcome from the moment they step on board the Royal Princess. There are 50 interconnecting cabins available, more than on any other ship in the Princess fleet - a great testament to the vessel's commitment to ensuring families have a great time.

Children can participate in organised, age-appropriate activities: the Pelicans for ages 3 to 7, Shockwaves for ages 8 to 12 and Remix for ages 13 to 17. Teenagers are largely self-sufficient, as they have their own lounge area which is kitted out with all the latest video games and films, as well as a dance floor and a hot tub. This area, also called Remix, is open until 3am.

Younger children are kept entertained with activities such as arts and crafts, kids' movies, pizza parties and so forth. If parents wish to enjoy a night out without their little ones, they can enrol them in group babysitting from 10pm to 1am. This is available at a small charge and open to children between the ages of 3 and 12.

Premium Deluxe Balcony

Larger than our Standard Balcony staterooms, Premium Deluxe Balcony cabins provide approximately 233 square feet of comfort, and an approximately 41 square foot balcony and includes all the same features of the Balcony stateroom, plus an additional sofa bed for lounging or sleeping a third passenger.
