Ruby Princess Overview

The Ruby Princess cruise ship set out on her maiden voyage in November 2008. Christened by Trista and Ryan Sutter from the Bachelorette, this beautiful ship is the ideal base for a romantic getaway. Her sister ships are the Emerald Princess and the Crown Princess.

The Ruby Princess specs
A relatively large vessel, the Ruby Princess weighs 113,561 tonnes, measures 951 feet in length and spans 19 decks. She can accommodate 3,080 passengers and 1,200 crew. Her cruising speed is 23 knots.

Inside the Ruby Princess
The interior decor on the Ruby Princess varies from room to room. The social heart of the ship, the three-deck Piazza, has a touch of glamour, with glass elevators and winding staircases. The cabins, on the other hand, are comfortable and contemporary, with crisp white furniture and light wooden finishings.

The atmosphere on board is lively and vibrant. The Piazza is usually home to a variety of live performers, from acrobats to magicians, while the wide variety of bars and lounges are always buzzing with people. There's never a dull moment - one of the benefits of staying on a big ship!

Things to do on board the Ruby Princess
With four pools, a luxurious day spa, a wide variety of enrichment classes and your favourite cruise games such as trivia and shuffleboard, you're bound to find an activity to suit your interests. Some holidaymakers are content spending the day by the pool with a good book, while others prefer to keep busy by taking computer classes, attending art auctions or listening to destination lectures.

Ruby Princess restaurants and bars
There are more than ten eateries to choose from on board the Ruby Princess cruise ship, as well as a wide range of bars and lounges - some of which also serve food. You'll definitely never go hungry!

The main dining rooms offer a wide selection of modern classics, including vegetarian and low-fat options - keep an eye out for the lotus flower on the menu, as this indicates a healthy meal choice. In addition to the main dining rooms, you will also find a buffet and several casual eateries, as well as a handful of specialty restaurants.

All of the bars on board are warm, welcoming and full of life. That said, due to the wide variety of venues to choose from, you're unlikely to feel cramped - there's plenty of space for everyone, perfect for couples who would like to enjoy a romantic evening.

Ruby Princess itineraries and shore excursions
The Ruby Princess cruise ship spends most of her time sailing to ports in Alaska and Mexico. The shore excursions available will of course depend on your chosen destination, but you can expect a variety of tours at each stop, with activities to suit all fitness levels and interests. Some examples include a Boeing factory tour in Seattle, a helicopter glacier tour in Alaska and glass-bottom kayaking and snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Cabins on board the Ruby Princess

There are 1,542 cabins on board the Ruby Princess cruise ship. These range in size from 163 square feet (interior) to 687 square feet (suite), with everything in between.

The interior, ocean view and balcony cabins are affordable, comfortable and well-appointed. All staterooms come equipped with a flatscreen television, mini-fridge and ample storage space.

One step above the balcony cabin is the mini-suite. At 324 square feet (including balcony), these offer a touch more space and tend to be in better locations throughout the ship.

If you really want something special, however, you can't go past a suite. Measuring between 461 and 687 square feet (including balconies), these are truly luxurious rooms. Each suite comes with a whirlpool bath, a walk-in closet and a spacious bathroom. Suite passengers also enjoy additional perks, such as fresh flowers, daily canapes, complimentary access to the Thermal Suite and breakfast at Sabatini's Restaurant.

Entertainment on board the Ruby Princess cruise ship

The Ruby Princess by day
Rise and shine, there's plenty to do during the day on board the Ruby Princess. Of course you can spend most of your time by one of the four freshwater pools - a wonderful choice on a warm, sunny day - or you can make the most of the ship's enrichment classes, boutique shops or public rooms.

The choice of enrichment programmes is truly impressive, with a variety of classes to choose from. Why not try your hand at scrapbooking, or improve your dance moves with a private dance class? Other popular classes include live cooking demonstrations and bartending lessons.

If you'd prefer some peace and quiet, make yourself comfortable in The Sanctuary, an adults-only retreat. Here you will be looked after by incredibly attentive staff while you relax on plush lounge chairs.

Pools, spas and fitness facilities on board the Ruby Princess
There are four freshwater pools on board the Ruby Princess; The Terrace Pool, Calypso Pool, Neptune's Pool and Reef and the Lotus Spa Pool. The Terrace and the Lotus are best suited to adults, while the other two are family-friendly. The Calypso Pool is also home to Movies Under the Stars, a large television screen which plays films throughout the day and night.

When it comes to relaxation, look no further than the Lotus Spa. This Asian-inspired retreat offers a variety of rejuvenating treatments including hot stone massage and body scrubs. The Lotus Spa is also home to a Thermal Suite, featuring steam rooms, heated beds and a sauna.

If you'd like to keep fit on board the Ruby Princess, the Fitness Centre has a range of cardio machines and free weights, as well as a selection of group fitness classes including Pilates and cycling. There is also a jogging track, a sports court and a Princess Links 9-hole putting course.

Ruby Princess nightlife
At the heart of the Ruby Princess' nightlife scene is the Princess Theater. This 800-seat venue is home to original production shows and stellar live performances. Be sure to attend at least one show during your cruise - it is well worth it! The Explorers Lounge and Club Fusion are also great spots for live entertainment as they both have stages.

And let's hope you packed your dancing shoes, as there's no shortage of places to bust out your best moves on the Ruby Princess. Skywalker's Nightclub is open late and has an excellent dance floor, while most other venues feature live music of some kind.

If you're in the mood for a low-key outing, settle down to watch a film at Movies Under the Stars, or try your luck at Gatsby's Casino.

The Ruby Princess for families
Families are made to feel incredibly welcome on board the Ruby Princess cruise ship. Your children will be begging to go on another cruise after a week or two at the Youth Centre!

There are three children's activity programmes, organised by age like on any Princess cruise: Princess Pelicans for 3 to 7 year olds, Shockwaves for 8 to 12 year olds and Remix for 13 to 17 year olds. The teens have quite a lot of freedom and their own hangout, complete with video games and movies, while younger children are under close supervision and participate in activities such as arts and crafts, board games and pizza parties.

The Youth Centre stays open most nights until around 10pm, after which there is a for-fee group babysitting service until 1am. Please note group babysitting spaces are limited and it is recommended to book a night in advance.

The spacious approximately 231-square-foot Balcony stateroom is appointed with fine amenities and outstanding views from an approximately 45-square-foot private balcony. Some staterooms also have pullman beds to accommodate 3rd and 4th passengers.

These features and fine amenities are standard in the Balcony stateroom:

  • Balcony with patio furniture
  • Twin beds that convert to a queen-size bed*
  • Private bathroom with shower
  • Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion
  • 100% Egyptian cotton linens
  • Satellite TV, refrigerator, hair dryer, safe, closet, phone and desk
  • 110V, 60-cycle alternating current (AC) with standard U.S. plug fittings
  • Daily housekeeping service
  • Evening bed turn-down, chocolates on your pillow

*Due to some cabin configurations, the two twin beds may not convert to a queen size bed.
